Wyoming Abortion Bill

I found on Planned Parenthood's "in the news" page an article from Wyoming about how much a doctor has to report to the state. It's a story from Wester Wyoming's #1 Local News Source, so you know it's good.

They want doctors to be required to report to the state the patient's age and country of residence, which in a state like Wyoming with small towns with even smaller populations is an issue, because if there is an El Salvadorian woman living in a town on the plain people are going to know who she is, and therefore would compromise the patient's privacy.

This bill didn't even get out of committee in Wyoming, a historically conservative state, which is a good sign for people changing their views and ideas of abortion.

The committee, as it says in the article, also defeated a proposal to require doctors to offer to show the patient an ultrasound image of their fetus.

This would be a way to guilt trip women into having a child they do not want. It would be harder to abort a baby if a woman were to see the form inside their body which is distinctly human in nature.

Obama's Immediate Action On Abortion

Barack Obama wasted no time in taking action against anti-abortion policies. In his first week in office Obama lifted a ban on federal funding of international family planning organizations.

Family planning centers, such as Planned Parenthood in the US, help to inform people about their options when they are pregnant and other counseling, having to do with sexual health. They also perform abortions. They also have clinical aspects of their organizations, dealing mostly with women's health and STIs.

My sister worked at an organization called Tapestry Health which is essentially the same thing as planned parenthood. She was a councilor and dealt with hundreds of clients with questions, illnesses, and concerns regarding sexual health.

Back to Obama. The ban which he lifted was responsible for blocking funds which previously went to family planning facilities around the world. Former President Bush enacted the ban which took US funding away from family planning places that administered abortions and even gave information about abortions. International family planning is important as there is less access, as of now, to condoms and sexual education courses. With family planning in other countries there will be more knowledge and understanding by people who previously had very little knowledge.

My name is Whit. I'd be suprised if anyone is reading this. I'm doing a blog for my politics class. I chose to do abortion rights. I am pro-choice, but will talk about pro-life arguments as well, even though they are wrong. I have no idea what to write for this first blog entry so I'm going to be posting some videos dealing with the topic of abortion.
